Shiatsu

A Japanese Art of Therapeutic Bodywork

A Natural Healing Discipline

Shiatsu brings together ancient forms of therapeutic bodywork coming from the same principles as Acupuncture, Anma Massage and Japanese traditional holistic therapies. The main aim is to restore energy and help bring the body and mind to a more BALANCED state and this is done by working the body’s vital energy flow along the energy channels of the body, known as MERIDIANS together with ACUPOINTS. The idea behind this therapy is to magnify the body’s ability to heal itself –so it’s more than just a ‘feel-good’ and relaxation practice.

By manipulating these vital energy points through subtle stretching and pressure it assists in releasing and opening the flow of BLOCKED/STUCK energy known as Ki.

Although SHIATSU literally means ‘finger pressure’ thumbs, palms, knees and elbows can be used also to stimulate or sedate the Ki (energy) along the meridian network of the body. This form of therapy helps in many ways. It can simply be to relax, ease stress, energise and rejuvenate the body over all. Regular shiatsu may help prevent illness and disease which commonly occur with us in today’s fast moving modern society. This form of therapy can help relieve symptoms be it physical, emotional or psychological.

The form of bodywork is carried out through clothing which can make individuals feel much more comfortable and at ease when having work applied. In most cases this form of bodywork is carried out at floor level on a Futon (cotton mattress) but can be carried out on the client while they sit on a stool, massage chair and in some cases for the less able on a massage table.

A session with myself will last around 1 hour + consultation. On initial visit Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Five Elements and Zen Principles are drawn upon to conclude personal diagnosis of the client. Advice on diet and exercise may be given to individual clients throughout visits.
